Trip to Annapolis!

Thanks in no small part to everyone who left comments sharing suggestions for my plan to visit Annapolis, the trip was a great success!

Annapolis is just as pretty, charming and preppy as promised!  Which basically means I want to move there as soon as Mr. Curieuse can be convinced to give up California {chances are slim to none, but a girl can dream}!

For my first stop to get much-needed coffee after a red-eye from LAX to Dulles, I drove straight to the Back Porch Cafe, only to find it hadn't opened for the season yet.  It does look like a terrific spot for brunch or breakfast, but luckily I found a great substitute at the 49 West Coffeehouse!

Two coffees - 1 iced, 1 hot.  I felt much more human afterwards. A jazz band was practicing in an adjoining room, so it was the perfect place to relax and plan my next move.  As a side note, it was just humid enough for me to order iced coffee, and I drank it all weekend.  I hadn't had any since the last time I was Back East; for this New England girl, it doesn't quite feel like summer unless it's humid!

My next move turned out to be stolling the streets, enjoying the perfect weather and beautiful town!

I hopped on a boat for a harbor tour and got an eyeful of boats and bridges:

And then wandered some more, finding the wonderful Annapolis Bookstore with a beautiful and peaceful little garden in the back:

Perfect spot for a coffee and treat break!

Annapolis is home to what is allegedly the most beautiful front door in America at the Hammond-Hartwood House:

Not too shabby, but I the front door across the street at the Chase-Lloyd House gets my vote {I subscribe to the "more is more" philosophy}:

can you spot my purse and ever-present iced coffee?
And to wrap things up, I headed over to local fav Cantler's for some soft-shell crab {my first time trying this MD specialty}!

Fine-dining it isn't, but the people are friendly, the food is great, and the tap-tap-tap of crab hammers serves as fitting background music.

And of course, like any small East-Coast city worth its salt, there were peonies everywhere.  I wish these could grow in my garden!

If you have a chance to visit Annapolis, don't hesitate to do so!  I can't wait to return to this beautiful little town.

Looks like my cup o' tea, Annapolis! Also. You drink coffee like I do. wait, WHY can't we live in the same place again!?

@Julie Thanks again for recommending the bookstore - it as one of the highlights, for sure!

@Tabitha Isn't it? I had no idea, either - just wanted to see a place I'd never been to before! That's a definite perk of traveling alone - absolute itinerary control.

@Beantown Prepster WHY, indeed?? Hub's company was thinking about sending us to his London office for a year, and I was so sad when Hubs vetoed it as a bad career move - I was secretly hoping we'd be in the same time zone, finally! :)

I've been to Annapolis a couple of times - preppy and charming is such a great description. It's such a quaint town with so much history.

Your photos are great!

You have a lovely bright blog. Fun to look at and read. I began with your most recent post & worked my way here. Annapolis is a gorgeous town. I lived in Richmond, VA 8 years. We love the east coast and I am a born and raised CA girl living in New England now. You are the reverse. I miss California but the problems are too great and the taxes too high. I am content to visit for now.
