Back to the Library

I've fallen back in love with The Library, scene of many a fond childhood memory.  I lost my way somewhere in my teens, and for a long time Amazon.com was my main source of reading materials.  No longer.  {Disclaimer: I still use Amazon for everything I am too lazy busy to source locally. Today I ordered ultra-fine sharpies. True story. They'll be here on Thursday.}

My local branch, still rocking 1960's chic like no tomorrow.

The Library is my friend again because (1) I don't have room to store a gazillion books and (2) to be perfectly honest: even if I DID have space, sometimes I fancy a nice trashy novel light read, and those have no place on respectable bookshelves.

Let's not forget that (3) libraries need membership and support in this day and age of slashing funds for public services.  And I like to Do The Right Thing, especially when it means I can occasionally read things that aren't TLS-approved without the secret shame that comes with paying for and storing them.

My reading for the week. Law School really can hone your speed-reading skills.

And going to the library has yet another perk: on your way there you might just see the Google Maps Car, complete with a massive camera-mount and missing hubcap.

EDITED to preserve driver's privacy {thanks Bella!}

Yes, I pulled my car to a screeching halt, leapt out and started snapping. Only on my way back to my still-running vehicle did I notice that the driver was STILL IN THERE.  Thankfully, he was fast asleep. Google must have a very progressive employee napping policy.

Happy Reading,

What are you reading? :)

I've never seen the Google maps car on the road before! Hopefully you didn't catch the driver sleeping on the job (since the plates are visible and Google could probably figure out which mapper that is...)

I wasn't together enough to get my library card until last year, and I love it! One of the first things on my to do list post-move is to get a new one. Happy reading!

@Bella
Good point about the plates, Bella! I highly doubt the Powers that Be over at Google are interested in my blog, but I edited the photo to obscure the numbers. Everyone needs a good nap, now and then.
I'll be sharing my reading list soon - thanks for stopping by!

I just rediscovered the library and I feel like such a good citizen every time I go. I think I'll miss it as soon as Amazon hops on the library lending train for the Kindle.
